I got Arkham City today, just to see what all the fuss is.
Hadn’t played the first game, but heard this one was overall better and I know enough about Bat-Man not to really need to play it first.
A couple of hours in and I’m still struggling to see the appeal of the jumping around and throwing stuff mechanics, and getting slightly annoyed at having to scan the area for whatever little thing I need to mess with next.
Hoping it gets a bit better and flows a bit more, but right now I don’t have much motivation :/

I thought it was fun for a while, definitely one of the better games out there. Story was a bit short, felt like Arkham Asylum was a bit longer.

Anyway, I blitzed through the story and tried to do some side missions in the post game part, and while there are some cool bits, a lot of it is just not worth it.

As far as I’m aware, I’ve done most of the sidequests since the map doesn’t show any more, except for the riddler stuff and the AR training. I finished the first set of AR training to get the grapple launcher thing which was pretty cool, but then the rest are so random, they don’t provide any explanation at all. The first one you’re meant to glide straight through a tunnel, I have no idea how you’re meant to do that.

And, forget the riddler thing. Having to sort through 400 trophies, not just find them but figure out how to do get them without any explanations most of the time, is stupid. And some of them force you to use the remote batarang, the controls of which fucking blow. There was one that required you to knock down 2 targets simultaneously with the remote batarang, and a third one with a regular batarang, all within the span of 10 seconds. I tried for 30 mins and quit.

And the worst part is, there is actually a riddler sidequest where you have to rescue hostages and solve his puzzles, except he will only let you progress to each hostage provided you have collected enough trophies, so you can’t continue without getting more trophies -_-

Played a little more. Turns out the game plays better when there aren’t 2 people watching you and telling you what to do :p

Thats because people were telling me what to do as I was doing it. I playe fine when I played later on my own. It’s not a party game :p

Meh.  Radar is over rated.

It’s a bit annoying that most games try to force you along that way now, more annoying that you hear the same lines of dialogue again and aFUCKINGain if you choose not to follow it.

Mute is always an option.

I kind of liked the amount of voice acting they had in Arkham City. It made the world feel more alive.

Could someone actually explain the story to me because I don’t get it?

Great game, great mechanics and likewise story.

Can’t afford AC yet though…i’ll ask for christmas
