At Sony's Pre-TGS press conference, currently underway, Sony has announced a brand new PSVita model for Japan. The revised handheld is intended to be more cost effective to consumers as well as more compact. The OLED screen has been replaced with an LCD screen to save cost, while the handheld itself will now be 20 percent thinner, and 15 percent lighter. In addition, the new model contains 1GB of built in storage space.
The new PSVita launches in Japan on October 10th for 18,980 Yen (about $190). No word yet on if this model will make it outside of Japan.
Sony has also announced that the PlayStation 4 will arrive in Japan on February 22nd for 39,980 Yen, just over 3 months after North America. Sony says the delay is because they are waiting for more Japanese focused game content to be ready.
