I wanted to take some test shots with the PlayStation Vita's rear camera to see how it compared with say, an iPhone, so I headed out to world heritige site Nikko Toshogu to snap some shots of the 1000 year old temple there. I also snapped a couple of indoor shots for comparison.
Sadly, as we already knew from the tech specs, the camera has a maximum resolution of 640 x 480, putting it about on par with the very first iPhone. The quality of the photos I took is extremely low and unfortunately, if you're looking to take photos of anything, you likely have a better camera on your phone already. It's too bad too, because with all the cool tech the PSVita has going for it and it's advanced augmented reality capabilities, it would have been awesome if there was an HD camera at least on the back. Perhaps in a future hardware revision when costs can be brought down I guess.
