Shut Your Claptrap! Borderlands 2 Release Date Trailer And Pre-Order Bonuses Announced

87 bazillion guns, just got bazillonder. Well said, Gearbox, well said.

Gearbox Software has been giving small snippets here and there about the 2009 sleeper hit Borderlands's sequel.  We've known it's been in development, and that there has been a few screen shots floating around, and a teaser trailer from E3 debuted a few months ago.  But that's all we've had till today.  Gearbox has released on their website, a totally kick ass 3 minute trailer, detailing the release date and pre-order bonuses for the upcoming Borderlands 2.  You can expect Borderlands 2 to hit the shelves on September 18th 2012 if you are in North America, and internationally on September 21st 2012.  It will be released on PC, Playstation 3 and X Box 360.  No mention of any plans for the Nintendo Wii-U.

In addition to the release date, gearbox has also detailed pre-order bonus material for customers who purchase their copies from or Gamestop.  Early birds will get these in-game items:

     • Golden Key – Unlock a rare item in the mysterious Sanctuary Loot Chest
     • Vault Hunter’s Relic – Boost your gear hunting fortune with the Vault Hunter’s Relic
     • Gearbox Gunpack - A package of Gearbox Golden Guns to help you start your journey on Pandora

There's a lot of controversy surrounding pre-order bonuses, as far as limiting the game experience for people who buy their game from the “wrong” store, or simply who might be interested in the game some time after it is released.  But it seems like these bonuses are pretty fair.  The Golden Key sounds tame enough.  It could be an article of clothing or maybe an item that you wouldn’t get until later in the game.  Same goes for the Gearbox Gunpack, just guns you might not get till later.  The Vault Hunters Relic will probably just advance your character a little faster.  But in the end everyone should have the same opportunities to get the same gear, keeping the game balanced.  I say no harm no foul.

Watch the trailer and tell me you are not fired up for this game!  Did you play Borderlands?  Are you hyped up for Borderlands 2?  What changes/additions would you like to see in the sequel?  How do you feel about these pre-order bonuses?
