Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic 3DS Review
Tortoise on November 23, 2011 at 02:17 pm

Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic 3DS is a return to DS cooking (much better than Wii cooking). A bit short with only 60 recipes, but it is compensated with "Let's Help" household task mini-games and "Let's Combine" food combination mini-games.

Doing a recipe step perfectly in less than half the time earns a "bonus" and using three bonuses unlocks a "Let's Help" mini-game or a "Mama's Gallery" decorative item. Doing a recipe step perfectly within any of the allotted time unlocks recipes and sometimes a "Let's Help" mini-game (yes, inconsistent). The "Let's Combine" mini-games are unlocked by completing the recipes.

Some of the cooking methods are slightly different, but I like the gyroscope usage for balance/tilting techniques - feels more intuitive than tapping sides of the screen.

Apparently you can use squid ink as a sauce. shock

I hate squid but am aware of the ink being food. Does the 3D element add anything?

The only time 3D added anything for me was during an Imax documentary.
