While some of us might still have a bad taste in our mouths from last year's Aliens: Colonial Marines stink fest, that isn't stopping Sega from releasing more games based on the storied sci-fi film series. Alien: Infestation, however, is being developed by Creative Assembly. These are the guys behind the Total War series of strategy games for the PC, while Colonial Marines was (mostly) handled by Gear Box. Queue sighs of relief from Alien fans everywhere.
Back in December some screenshots from Alien: Infestation leaked along with zero information about the game, leaving fans to speculate. Xbox.com has since been updated with some official images, box art and a synopsis of the title which describes it as "survival horror". Now that certainly gets my fanboy juices flowing.
"Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien™, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother's disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive."
So a survival horror game, set in the Alien universe where you battle against only ONE alien, and deal with human threats as well. Sounds awesome to me. I'm an Alien AND a survival horror nut so forgive me if I wont be able to contain my hype despite the track record of previous Alien games. Don't fuck this up, guys!
Update: Official trailer added below, and it looks great!
