A few days ago Nintendo announced the new 90% bigger 3DS XL. Shocking was that even with it's larger size, the thing still doesn't have a built in second circle pad. Well Nintendo says fear not, it's all party of the plan as before the end of the year you'll be able to pick up the Circle Pad XL add on to make your jumbo sized 3DS even more jumbo sized.
The previous circle pad add-on for the regular 3DS was met with much hate from the gaming world for being both ugly, and physical proof that Nintendo hadn't really put enough thought into the design of the system before it's launch. Nintendo has since repeatedly insisted that a redesign of the device was not in the cards, until the XL was announced. If it isn't obvious by now that Nintendo has lost touch with what gamers want, well.. now it is, I guess.

Reggie says we’re impossible to please. Maybe if they listened to what people want…?

What would have pleased people in this situation, though, really? Making a 3DS that has four joysticks and operates as a high end tablet PC?

Making a 3DS with the second stick, needed to play some games.

2nd stick is basically all it needed. The larger screen is just luxury where the second stick was necessary IMO.

I have a hard time believing that the second stick issue is the only thing keeping people from getting excited about the 3DS.

That’s not what we’re talking about.
It’s purely that Nintendo made a sloppy afterthought of an add-on for their console, which a bunch of AAA titles utilise, to the point where they’re basically unplayable without it.
People on the fence wait for a redesign (including this second stick) to happen before they buy a 3DS.
Nintendo announce that there will be no 3DS redesign.
About a week later, they reveal one. They’ve made the screens bigger and you still need to buy a separate stick add-on.
